The 6 most common SEO mistakes

SEO mistakes you can avoid.

Search engine optimization is not voodoo magic. To ensure your site is optimally indexed by Google, there are a few rules to follow. Rules listed by Google, but many homepages do not implement them well or at all. Check out the 8 most common SEO mistakes here.

SEO Check

Error 1: Content

The most important thing is your content. Texts. What is it about, what are your services or products? Those who publish too little or only superficial text on their own website will never achieve a good ranking. Your homepage is very important. It should state what you offer. The keywords you want to be found for should be present. Even if it's cool, avoid a splash screen that consists only of graphics.

Error 2: Page Title

The page title in your source code should be meaningful for each individual page. Titles like "Home" for the homepage say absolutely nothing about what the user can expect. The page title is the first thing shown in Google search results. It should always be related to your content (content title, text).

Error 3: Content Titles

Your content should have titles so Google can see what it's about. HTML semantics are important here. Make sure your text blocks are divided into main and subheadings. The main title should match the page title. A title like "Welcome" on the homepage says nothing about your website.

Error 4: Meta Description

The meta description in your source code is the short description of your content. Together with the page title, it is displayed in Google search results and ultimately decides whether a user clicks or not. Each of your pages should have its own meta description.

Error 5: Linking (Backlinks)

Google pays attention to whether your site is linked, i.e., mentioned and linked on other sites. The more important the linking site is, the better for you. Ideally, the linking page should be about your topic, and your keywords should be linked within a text block.

Error 6: Speed

Speed is important. If your page loads too slowly, many visitors will bounce within seconds. Google also pays attention to whether your page loads quickly. Pages that load quickly get a better ranking. However, speed alone is limited. It doesn't help if you have the fastest page in the world but no content. Test the page speed of your site.

Google Page Speed

Quick tip: Make sure to take care of your Google Business listing. The listing is important for your performance.

Of course, there are many other factors. These are just the basics that are easy to implement.
